The Lock – Leaside Golf Club

Leaside Golf Club (aka The Lock) is situated in the heart of North London at Pickets Lock, Edmonton, N9 within the Lee Valley Leisure Complex.

If you would you like to join the golf club, you are more than welcome.

The aims of the Club is to give existing memebers, and new members, to play both competitively and socially with other like-minded golfers in a friendly or competitive competition.
Handicaps are issued amd maintained in the normal way in accordance with the EGU.

To provide a chance to find out about all that etiquette stuff you didn’t know for sure and those pesky rules that cause so much discussion (everyone has an opinion). To promote the game of golf and to assist all junior and senior novice golfers ‘up’ to the lowest handicap golfer who becomes a member.
The most important item of all is knowing that you will always have partners to play with when you turn up, no more ‘head up, lost another ball’.

At the Lock

The benefits of membership at The Lock, apart from the above, will be discounted green fees, reserved tee times and early booking and finally a season ticket for five and seven day golfers. The opportunity also arises for competition with other golf clubs as well as individual and pairs comps through an organisation called the ‘National Association of Public Golf Courses’ (nice folks) who organise interclub matches with national finals and promote golf in all its aspects.
Finally members will be encouraged to take part in all club events whether they are golfing or social but never pressured to do so, it’s there if you want it! Needless to say the folks who organise on your behalf are always keen to see a good turnout.

The Course at The Lock is short, at a par of 66 from Yellow tees and 67 from Whites but shows its’ teeth with a standard scratch of 64 and 65 respectively. The lake on the front 9 holds your attention, needs respect but is manageable for all levels of golfer as are the older back 9 holes with tests of their own. The Lee Navigation runs for four (8,9,10 & 11) of these with the ‘Enfield Ditch’ on their right and although no further major problems follow (apart from the Ditch again later) all the usual trials of trees and sand are awaiting your attention.

The Lock golf course has a user friendly feel for juniors learning the game and teaches them to be straight hitters with the normal tests for longer hitters kicking in as they improve and hit the ball further. Similarly for seniors, the course is easy to walk and if you’re new to the game, not too demanding until you have improved and start to push your ability. Ladies will fall into all of the above categories ‘with and for’ the same reasons.

The condition of The Lock golf course is second to none, well cared for, with a highly competent greens team. The actual greens themselves give great pleasure throughout the year, despite the normal problems with disease they ‘roll’ well and drain perfectly. In fact the course is the best draining course in the whole of North London (tends not to close) built as it was on a reclaimed commercial landfill (real recycling). The course is constantly being improved, both by layout and cosmetically with many new trees being planted.
